Admirers of Alexey Alpatov have a unique opportunity to see not only new series of his paintings “Summertime”, but to communicate with the artist in person. On the 14th of May Alaptov will give a lecture which is called “of deceit”, where he will share his experience of twenty-year observations of processes of “production” and “consumption” of works of visual arts. The artist is interested in questions of viewer’s and author’s awareness of artworks’ perception, understanding and fixation of their feelings or those things that hide behind the edge of common senses: “Is the image only a “map” or it contains “territory” that is not discovered yet; why some images attract the view and others fall out mind very quickly”?
Alpatov will tell about his observations of artworks becoming masterpieces, and about the processes that give them special status, about the difference in influence of the artwork on its contemporaries and further generations on examples of battle painting, totalitarian art and abstractionism in works by Vereshchagin, Roubaud, Rothko, Pollock and Richter.
