Vladimir Semenskiy

“Vladimir Semenskiy is an adherent of values of the pictorial mastery and dialogue with the tradition. He is moving within the modernist mainstream, researches and consistently overcomes the iconoclasm of minimalism and conceptualism, dogmas of the late modernism. His energetic and free art praises the fullness of life, energy and desire of bodies, and the will to the artistic experiment.”

– Alexander Evangeli

Vladimir Semensky does large canvas paintings, showing reality as a random sum of spontaneous personal movements. Painting itself is formed of spontaneous bodily movements and presents them as the closest reality and simultaneously the closest secret of which they are born. His painting is corporeal and speaks of the body, which is put together from unpredictable inner movements. It is distinguished by chaotic frankness and eurythmy. It is both intimate and eccentric. It grows out of a runaway and intuitive spirit and speaks of freedom as an indispensable prerequisite for the emergence of man. A work of art by Vladimir Semensky symbolizes corporeality, the tense state of a body, usually naked. Vladimir stays traditional in his inherency to deep values of mastery, painting traditions, and to artistic dialogue. His art exhibits references to the European ideas of the 70’s and opposition to the repressive Soviet visuals.

The free and energetic painting style of Vladimir Semensky is saturated with a desire to overcome the ideological limitations of late Modernism, dogmatic iconoclasm of Minimalism and Conceptualism. In pursuing this desire he (as well as Alexander Zhernokluev) translates the energies of European Modernism that established the fullness of life, art without boundaries, and defined the evolution of Modernism.
