VLADIMIR KOLESNIKOV

Vladimir Kolesnikov was born in 1969 in Krasnodar. Graduated from the Krasnodar Art School, he enrolled in the Kuban State University and ended it in 1995.

Vladimir Kolesnikov works in a special technique using oil pastels, oil and acrylic. Visually his works are similar to engravings or prints and stylized in form of Italian mannerism. In addition to that the artist originally chooses the themes for his works: the elements of modern mass culture are always in dialogue with classic examples from art history, acquiring an ironic characteristic of the postmodern image.

The most famous series which was made by artist is «Corrections». As the artist says, girls who destroy works of art are nothing but a metaphor for mass culture, which is based on instincts: "I consciously depict it very simply, almost like a comic book. To do this, I take a recognizable artwork and connect it with a girl from pin-up. She is the sense of desire. And it turns out: the object of grassroots culture destroys the subject of high art".

Vladimir Kolesnikov’s artworks are in the collection of Kapitall-Group, Pierre Brochet, Umar Dzhabrailov, Vladimir Nekrasov, Evgeniy Hanin and other private collections. Currently the artist lives and works in Krasnodar.
